When we arrived at Petrohradská 13 in March of 2015, we were standing in front of a dilapidated building that had been abandoned for seven years. Originally, at the turn of the 19th and 20th century, it was a mill, later turned into a chocolate factory, and since the 1950s the building had been used as an assembly workshop for ZPA (a provider of measuring and regulating heating devices). In the two years that we have been here, we have managed to transform the space into a gallery, a multifunctional hall, studios and an apartment for residents. Unfortunately, the life cycle of the building is approaching it end: in the next few years, the building is to be demolished to make space for new apartment buildings. Due to the inevitably temporary nature of our stay in this specific building, we are constantly evaluating how much to invest into reconstruction of the space. At the same time, we are looking at other buildings in Prague, where we will eventually relocate the projects of Petrohradská kolektiv.

Studios in Petrohradská

Studios in Petrohradská 1.2.3. are provided via the Residency Program for Czech Artists. We consider our residents to be direct participants of the Petrohradská 1.2.3. project, which is why they are chosen based in their portfolios. The main benefit of the program is receiving a co-funded studio space, for which they pay a fraction of the commercial rental price. We welcome more intense forms of collaboration based on the principle of balanced symbiosis.
The individual studios range in size from 14m2 to 70m2, with one studio of 200m2. They are located in all three stories of the building. Some have large windows, thus convenient for painters for example, other have less natural light, convenient for graphic designers or video artists. Workshops can be found in the courtyard. Communal areas include WC, a bathroom, a and kitchen.

Petrohradská ROOM

Petrohradská Room is a multifunctional hall of 150m2 located across the courtyard from the main building. It consists of two connected rooms of 110m2 and 40m2. Light and sound isolation is installed over the large windows. Basic technical equipment is also available.

The Gallery was established in 2016 with the aim of supporting young and emerging artists, and presenting the work of our Czech and foreign residents. Since our attention is focused on emerging artists, we seek to involve the artist in the whole process of holding an exhibition: starting with discussions regarding the concept to (de)installation, keeping in mind the value of the experience itself. In other words, we emphasize the process of holding an exhibition, rather than just presenting the artwork itself. Beside exhibitions, we hold film-media presentations in a regular series called 1x1, ranging from video-art to documentary movies to collages to animation, where the author is always present, creating a platform for discussion and dialog.
